Description:Battelle, a world leader in research and technology, has an opening for an Associate Manager in its Medical Readiness and Response (MRR) Product Line within the Technical & Analytical Support Operations (TASO) group. MRR is a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving all aspects of health and medical preparedness for catastrophic events, whether due to natural or intentional causes. MRR has collective experience and expertise in human and animal public health, healthcare operations, occupational health and emergency medical management. With advanced degrees or certifications in public health, medicine, veterinary medicine, entomology, industrial hygiene, health physics, healthcare administration, nursing, and other allied health-related fields, many of the staff hold academic credentials at institutions of higher learning or serve as advisors to various national governmental and professional organizations. <br><br>MRR Associate Manager will fulfill two primary roles: <br><br>The Associate Manager will be the direct line manager for many of the staff located in the Hampton and San Antonio areas, primarily serving Navy and Air Force clients. In this role, the incumbent will be responsible to assure effective operations, both current and in the future, through the selection, training, development and motivation of a capable staff. The incumbent will establish staff goals and objectives and prepare and deliver performance reviews. Provide technical management and leadership of the MRR staff serving Navy and Air Force clients, setting overall vision, recruiting and hiring, defining training tools and processes, balancing MRR resources across interrelated MRR programs, and maintaining the MRR staff mix to meet the demands of the marketplace. <br>The Associate Manager will be a principle MRR technical lead for product development and marketing opportunities, including proposal preparation, planning and budgeting, and client communication. In this role, the incumbent will lead the definition of what our Navy and Air Force related MRR service offerings will be and which markets we will proactively support, and will be the principle voice of that definition to our current and future customers. The incumbent is expected to achieve objectives within the constraints of the budgets, operating plans, overall objectives, policies and precedents of STS and MRR. The incumbent will encounter differing situations that require judgments regarding problem identification and selection of appropriate solutions. The incumbent will determine priorities and ensure procedures accomplish required end results. <br><br><br>The successful applicant will possess the characteristics required to execute these two primary roles, and be capable of leading the Navy and Air Force related MRR development team into the future of public health and medical readiness. <br>The above statements are intended to describe the nature and level of work being performed by the person assigned to this job. They are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of a staff member so classified. <br><br><strong>Required Qualifications</strong> <br>- Masters degree in public health, veterinary public health, public health preparedness, epidemiology, or similar professional degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant health sciences discipline. <br>- At least 10 years of demonstrated experience in the areas of public health; medical readiness, veterinary preventive medicine; zoonotic diseases, or healthcare operations. <br>- At least 10 years of active duty US Military, or US Public Health Service, or relevant state/federal government experience focusing on emergency medical response, medical planning, military public health/force health protection, occupational health or similar area with increasing levels of responsibility. <br>- Knowledge of the NIMS/NRP, federal incident management, and relevant federal and military response plans for domestic terrorism utilizing weapons of mass destruction and preparedness for emerging infectious disease, such as avian and pandemic influenza. <br>- Knowledge of CBRNE, emerging infectious disease, environmental hazards, and/or medical/public health preparedness principles. <br>- Possess strong intrapersonal skills and ability to work effectively both independently and managing small groups. <br>- Possess strong analytical skills. <br>- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. <br>- Strongly self-motivated. <br>- Possess a SECRET Department of Defense security clearance at the time of employment, and be capable of obtaining and retaining a TOP SECRET clearance. <br>- Willingness to comply with Battelle Policies and Standards of Business Ethics and Conduct. <br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong> <br>- Over 15 years of demonstrated proficiency and experience in the areas of preventive medicine, epidemiology, veterinary medicine, emergency medicine, environmental health, occupational health or health risk management. <br>- Experience working with federal, state and/or local emergency preparedness and response/public health and/or planning agencies. <br>- PhD or equivalent in field relevant to the job requirements. <br>- Skill as a facilitator for diverse groups in workshop settings and homeland security/homeland defense exercises involving differing perspectives and interests. <br>- Possession of an active Department of Defense TOP SECRET clearance at time of employment. <br>- Proficiency with Microsoft Project, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint software. <br><br><br>BENEFITS <br>Battelle’s competitive benefits program includes comprehensive medical and dental care, matching 401K, employee pension, tuition reimbursement, work/life balance, paid time off, flexible spending accounts, disability coverage, and other benefits that help provide financial protection for you and your family. <br><br>Battelle is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and supports diversity in the workplace.
