SIGNALS ANALYSTS
Signals Analysis is a cutting-edge technical discipline that seeks to identify the purpose, content, and user of signals. The National Security Agency's targets often communicate using advanced techniques that require the most sophisticated means to analyze, understand, and exploit. NSA offers the latest in computing technology, laboratory signal measurement, test equipment and is a world leader in the use of high power workstations and supercomputers. NSA also develops many of its own hardware and software tools for Signals Analysis tasks.
With today's rapidly evolving global communications, NSA's Signals Analysts are seeking to recover, understand, and derive intelligence from all manner of foreign signals. As an example of this challenge, consider that hundreds or thousands of channels of mixed information types may be multiplexed together and transmitted digitally over a satellite or terrestrial link to form a single signal. Demodulating and unraveling the internal structure of such complex signals to recover their information content and related data, is one job of the Signals Analyst, offering unique satisfaction to the technically trained professional.
Ideal candidates should possess a background in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and related technical disciplines. Additional skills preferred include Computer Programming or Digital Signals Processing. Extensive in-house classroom and on-the-job training is offered as part of continuing career development. Some Signals Analysts choose to also develop skills and receive professional certification in other technical disciplines, such as Signal Collection or Computer Science. |
